What is Healing from Trauma?

It’s different for different people and there is no right or wrong way to heal or recover from great loss. Some find relief in the company of others who grieve, some find relief in hiding from their grief, maybe trying not to look at it or changing the subject of grief in their brain. Susan tried this and it was a big fail for her! The grief always found it’s way back to her heart and sometimes at the most inopportune times. Out of the blue. Others find relief by attending group recovery sessions. She tried this as well, and found it didn’t necessarily bring her relief sitting with others who cried.

What did provide relief was being outside. Out in nature. That was healing. That walk in nature allowed Susan to refocus her sadness into a treasure hunt of sorts. A treasure hunt for heart shaped anything. Those secret messages of love were suddenly everywhere and instead of feeling that there was incredible space between she and Lucy, she found that Lucy was actually everywhere. Her love was not only in nature but it was nature.
